Herman Levi and Jacob Loew, grandfather and uncle to Capitol Food Company president Douglas Levi, founded Capitol Milling Company to mill flour on a large scale in the Los Angeles area.

In 1999, the Levi family sold Capitol Milling Company to ConAgra Brands Inc. Subsequently, they partnered with Doug Jensen, who had served as the sales manager at Capitol Milling, to establish Capitol Food Company in 2000. This new venture focused on providing high-quality ingredients and blends to the food and baking industry.

A facility in La Mirada, California, formerly owned by Winchell’s Donut House Inc., was acquired to boost production capabilities. The facility is uniquely serviced by BNSF and UPO railroads, with private rail spurs that streamline logistics, allowing for faster and more cost-effective deliveries.

Expanding its operational footprint, Capitol Food Company acquired its headquarters building located in Cerritos, California. This strategic investment underscored the company's commitment to enhancing its infrastructure and consolidating its administrative functions.

A major upgrade was made to a blending and packaging facility in La Mirada, California, enhancing production capabilities. The upgrades included state-of-the-art flour packing equipment and advanced dry blending systems, increasing efficiency and capacity. These improvements enable the company to meet growing demand and provide timely deliveries to clients across the United States.

The acquisition of Allied Sales & Distribution strengthens the company’s ability to meet the rising demand for nutritious and innovative food options. By adding whole grain, plant-based, and health-focused ingredients to its portfolio, the company is positioned to offer a broader range of functional food ingredients for the bakery sector.
